What Are Blackjack Side Bets?

Have you ever wondered how to add more thrill into the game of Blackjack? Traditional Blackjack involves each participant attempting to beat the dealer by getting a count as close to 21 as possible without going over and busting, but with side bets the player has a better chance of increasing their winnings with added bets on top of your original hand. Fundamentally, Blackjack side bets are a bonus bet on a hand of Blackjack on outcomes whether the player or dealer will win. The majority are hedged at the start of the round before the cards come out and many have fixed odds that usually are much more enticing with greater payouts than 2:1.

What Blackjack Side Bets Are Available?

There are a plethora of side bets available which can be applied to the game of Blackjack, but we’ve condensed the list below with the most popular and simple side bets you can make on Blackjack.

  • 21+3 – This involves the player’s first two cards and the dealer’s cards face up. This is a similar game to poker, seeing if the various combinations match up to poker hands.
  • Flush: Three cards are the same suit. This usually pays out 5:1.
  • Straight: The three cards are in sequence irrespective of suit. This usually pays out 10:1.
  • Three of a kind: The three cards are of the same value  irrespective of suit. This usually has a payout of 30:1.
  • Straight flush: The three cards are in sequence and of the same suit. This usually has a payout of 40:1.
  • Suited three of a kind: Three cards of the same value and suit. This usually has a payout of 100:1.
  • Perfect Pairs – A Perfect Pair bet is a side bet wagered on the outcome that the first two cards in your hand are a mixed, coloured or perfect pair.
  • Mixed pair: The two cards are a pair of the same rank but of two different colours. This usually has a payout of 5:1.
  • Coloured pair: The two cards are a pair of the same rank and colour but different suits. This usually has a payout of 10:1.
  • Perfect pair: The two cards are a pair of the same suit and rank. This usually has a payout of 30:1.
  • Easy Match – This is a side bet that if the first two cards dealt to you are the same suit. This usually has a payout of 3:1.
  • Royal Match – This is a side bet that the first two cards in your hand will be a King and a Queen of the same suit. In a single deck game, a Royal Match has a payoff of 10:1.
  • Over/Under 13 – This is a straightforward net on whether the first two cards will amount to value of over or under 13, with the Ace counting as one and the value of 13 generally resulting in a lost bet. This is usually a payout of 10:1.
  • Super Sevens – This is a bet on how many sevens you will receive in the hand, if your first card is a seven then the pay out is usually 3:1. If your first two cards are sevens then the payout is usually 50:1 if they are different suits and a whopping 100:1 if they’re the same suit. If by some chance you hit a third seven, then the payout is 500:1 if they’re different suits and a titanic 5000:1 if they are the same suit.
  • Lucky Ladies – This is a bet on whether the first two cards of your hand will have a value of 20. If the cards have a value of 20 and they are of different suits the payout is usually 4:1, if they are of the same suit the payout is usually 10:1 and if they are of the same suit and rank the payout is usually 25:1. If the first two cards that come out are Queen Of Hearts (The Lucky Ladies) then the payout is usually 200:1 and if the two cards are both Queen of Hearts and the dealer gets Blackjack, then the payout is a 1000:1.
